A Happy Easter Weekend

Wow, this weekend flew by! We had a great holiday, and were happy to spend lots of time with our family. We even got dressed up and made it to church. Here’s the proof, a quick pic after we got home and while Roy was happily napping. Not that you can see, but I wore this new dress from the Gap that I totally love. It’s the first new dress I have bought in long time, and I’m glad I did.

My First Mom to Mom Sale

I went to my first Mom to Mom sale in search of a jogging stroller….this is what I came home with. Not exactly what I was hoping for, but how can you turn down baby Chucks and Vans, or a Misfits onesie? Got all this and a few more things for $10!

Also, I thought people were pushy and weird at estate sales. Those people have nothing on some of the people at mom to mom sales – geez!

Mix Tape!

This week’s Mix Tape post is featuring a few of my friends, who are all inspired and inspiring in so many different ways!

Ben – the founder of Corner Pieces, a charity that promotes autism awareness and provides iPads to children with autism to help with their educations, worked to get a number of Michigan landmarks to be lit up blue on Monday night for autism awareness.

Lish transformed a simple craft tote into a really cute & on trend purse

Chris – a fellow show producer, author and artist, wrote a great post about the art/book scene, and the need to adapt within it.

Jeff made some amazing spicy ginger beer & shared it with us at dinner this week. I totally forgot to take a picture, but it was yummy and ginger-ific. You’ll just have to trust me on this.

Question Mark and the Mysterians T Shirt

When you think of Michigan rock bands, there are a lot of greats to choose from. A few of our local favorites – MC5, Grand Funk Railroad, Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band, The Romantics…and Question Mark and the Mysterians! I saw this ’80s T shirt at a yard sale six years ago and was so excited. The owner told me it was given to her by one of the members, a friend of hers, years ago. I told her about a store that I used to manage in Flint, Michigan and how another member of the band used to shop there with his wife. I was always so happy to talk with them – they were good, down-to-earth people, and always so nice! I always ended up singing “96 Tears” to myself the rest of the day after they came in.

Homemade French Toast

Like Ron Swanson, we’re big on breakfast foods here in our home. Bacon, eggs, cinnamon rolls, hash browns, muffins….mmmm. One of my favorites is french toast, and it’s so easy to make – even better!

Homemade French Toast (serves 2-3)

  • 6 slices of bread (I like wheat bread, but any bread will do)
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • pinch of cinnamon

Combine eggs, milk, vanilla and cinnamon in a wide, shallow bowl and whisk. Dip each slice of bread in, making sure that both sides soak in the egg mixture, and immediately move onto a hot skillet or pan. Cook  until golden brown over medium heat (about 4-5 min each side), and top with butter, maple syrup and a sprinkle of confectioner’s sugar. French toast, for me, is just like coffee – add all the extras you can!
