Handmade Detroit will be at the People’s Art Festival this Saturday, September 13th at the Russell Industrial Center in Detroit this Saturday!

Phantom Limb, Glass Action, Make-Out Goods, Lish Magic and Reware Vintage will be set up in the Handmade Detroit tents all day at PAF. I will be bringing record notebooks, pins, earrings and bracelets, along with our handmade pouches and bags from recycled vintage materials! We will also be selling Handmade Detroit T shirts, mitten pins and magnets to raise money for the upcoming Detroit Urban Craft Fair.

The People’s Art Festival will be from 11am-midnight and will feature over 100 artists and crafters!

Hope to see you there!

Dally in the Alley was Saturday, and it couldn’t have been a more perfect day outside for it. Every year I look forward to this festival, and each year it gets better and more fun! Reware Vintage’s red tent was in it’s usual spot on Second Avenue, but this year Dan and I had a newbie helping us out during the day - our dog Kona.

We had a great time, and were happy to see a lot of our friends that stopped by. Despite the hard Michigan economy and the city of Detroit now requiring each vendor to buy a city permit for the day, all the vendors I spoke to were very positive about the day and the shoppers. This was our fourth year at Dally, and it was very exciting to see shoppers from years past come into our tent and tell us they were glad to see us there again. I wish I would have had the opportunity to check out the art and bands playing (it was a great line up), but I heard it was awesome!

Each large show like this that we do I realize that events like this are not only great for making some money, they are also fantastic opportunities for networking and promoting your business. I handed out countless business cards and fliers, answered questions from a lot of customers about the upcoming Detroit Urban Craft Fair, met a few local vintage store owners, made some new crafty friends, talked with two record store owners that are going to hook me up with unsellable records for me to use for my record notebooks, and spoke to another store owner that would like to carry my notebooks this Christmas! I left Dally at the end of the night exhausted, but very excited for the other shows I would be at the rest of the year and appreciative of all the new contacts I had made.

Thanks so much to the North Cass Community Union and all of it’s volunteers for putting together another awesome Dally in the Alley!

Dally in the Alley is tommorrow!

Friday, September 5th, 2008

Reware Vintage will be setting up shop at Dally in the Alley tommorrow, Saturday, September 6th (Rain date Sunday, September 7th)! Dally is one of my favorite Detroit area festivals to sell at and this will be our fourth year setting up there. We will be taking down the website shop this evening to bring the majority of our stock there!

There will be four stages of local bands playing throughout the day, and some fantastic art and other vendors as always. Plus, the money raised by the fair goes to an excellent cause - the North Cass Community Union.

I am hoping to set up in our usual spot on Second Avenue with our bright red tent.

Hope to see you there!

Dally In the Alley

I’m very excited that Dally in the Alley is fast approaching - it’s on Saturday, September 6th! Dally is one of my favorite Detroit area festivals to sell at and this will be our fourth year setting up there. This year Dally in the Alley is turning 31 years old, and this year the artists of the Russell Industrial Center will be featured, with the help of Mark Arminski curating. Wow.

If you’ve never been, I strongly urge you to come this year! There will be four stages of local bands playing throughout the day, and some fantastic art and other vendors as always. Plus, the money raised by the fair goes to an excellent cause - the North Cass Community Union. From the Dally in the Alley website: “The NCCU has used the Dally proceeds to fund the environmental lawsuit against the City of Detroit trash incinerator, provide roaming security during the nighttime hours, and grant scholarships to enable neighborhood children to attend the Art Center Music School.

I am hoping to set up in our usual spot on Second Avenue (check out the map here) with our bright red tent. Hope to see you there!

WHFR Record Show

Thanks so much to Mike and the rest of the WHFR staff for putting together an awesome show, and for inviting Reware Vintage to be there!

My friend Care from Glass Action and I were neighbors and met a number of really cool people (including a new store that may carry my record notebooks and a new cheap record hook-up) and had a great time in a totally new-to-us selling environment. I think I’ll be signing up for more record shows in the future!
