Village People Offer

Monday, August 31st, 2009

I just pulled this out of a Village People record sleeve. I love the girls haircut, and I so want that Mucho Macho shirt and the wristbands…maybe one day I’ll find them!

Meet my New Mannequin!

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

I picked this lovely lady up last weekend, and she’s ready to get to work modeling! I’ve decided to name her Jenna, because it means “white wave”, which suits her complexion and curves. I spent some time looking at lists of names with their meanings and liked Jenna best (By the way, I discovered that my name means “House of Poverty”. Yipes!)

Doesn’t she look great in this dress? I *LOVE* this dress! I think that Jenna will really help show off clothing even better than her limbless stepsisters, and I’m hoping I can find one of her larger cousins one day to add to the Reware Vintage family!

Alterna Craftervid

This is video from Lish, Crissy and my field trip to Ohio. Specifically, from Lish, Crissy and my trip into Studio Club 161 inside our hotel room after our field trip to Ohio’s State Fair to meet the ladies of the Crafty Cotillion. The bar wasn’t nearly as fun as the rest of the day, but it was in an odd way…

Catching Up

Monday, August 24th, 2009

Last week was so crazy for me, I completely forgot to write about my awesome weekend!

On Friday a fellow crafter I know had me over to look at her amazing collection of vintage clothing. It was pretty far away and out in farm country area, and I loved driving through it!

I bought some really fantastic pieces from her (almost 100 dresses, skirts, western shirts, and coats) that you will begin seeing on the website hopefully in about a month. It was so fun looking through everything, and I am really excited to begin selling all the amazing clothing!

Down the street from her home there was a sign in the road for a garage sale pointing down a one lane trail into the woods. A sign of a great sale!!! It really was, even if it was a bit scary getting to it.

The trail was about 1/2 mile long, and was barely wide enough for my Aztek. It was through woods and fields, and over hills. When I finally got to the barn sale, my first question was “How do you get out in the winter?” The owner smiled and pointed at the massive machine on the other side of the driveway, and told me can plow the snow down the whole drive in 15 minutes with it.

Outside of their barn was a TON of plasticy children’s toys and a few old cars for sale. This one was my favorite – a specially airbrushed 1969 Buick Riviera.

Inside the barn I discovered knick-knacks, kids clothing and a number of blank vintage T shirts. I filled a bag with the T shirts, and asked why they had so many…the woman pointed at the corner of the barn – thousands of vintage iron ons in boxes! They used to own a business at the local flea market where you could pick your T shirt and Iron on, and they’d make it on the spot!

I spent the next hour going through the iron ons, and got some REALLY COOL ones – Superman the Movie, Grease, Smokey and the Bandit, and more! I bought about 100 iron ons from them, and a whole tray full of velvet iron on letters. Now I can put names on the backs of T shirts!!! Woot!

On the drive back, I stopped at another sale and got a number of deadstock 80’s sunglasses, including some that change color in the sunlight! It was an amazing day, and I had a great time picking up some great new things for Reware Vintage, and myself! That night I went to the Fucking Awesome Fest at the Majestic Theater Complex and saw some amazing local bands I’d been wanting to check out (The Replicas were so good!) and Juiceboxxx, who was stellar as always.

Saturday was the Rock N Roll Garage Sale at the Fucking Awesome Fest, and it was a brutally hot day – 90 degrees in the sun – but we had a good time out on the deck all day watching the bands play.

Sex Ghost and Millions of Brazillians were especially awesome. When the day was over we headed out to Slow’s for some utterly delicious barbecue, and immediately crashed at home when we finally got there! It was a such a fun weekend, and also exhausting. But worth every moment!!!
