Thrifting with Jesus
Yesterday I had a fun day going up north and hitting some thrift stores! I found some really killer stuff, and had a great time driving in the beautiful weather, listening to Ben Folds Five, Nick Cave and Meg Lee Chin on the road.
It seems each time I make a trip like this, there is some odd common theme for the day. Yesterday’s theme was Jesus Paintings. And not nice paintings, but a bunch of paintings that made me question what people would hang them in their homes. One in almost every store.
Velvet paintings are always fun…but a velvet Jesus? That is just wrong!
This one just seems so mad! Why is he so mad?
There were several others, each of them strange in their own ways. There was a confused looking Jesus, a stoned looking Jesus and even a kind of caveman looking Jesus. Who makes these?
Usually Goodwill signs are creepy too, with messages of damnation or something…but this one was nice. I had to take a picture.
So true! Somebody on the road honked, smiled and waved at me as I was taking the picture.
It was a fantastic day, and one full of crazy finds. Here’s just a sampling of my scores:
